JBIC said the loan is part of a wider €443m long-term finance package agreed for the 129MW Luchterduinen, which entered service late last year.

The MHI Vestas-equipped project is co-owned by Dutch utility Eneco and Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi.

JBIC said Mitsubishi was targeting opportunities in European offshore wind power – an area where Japanese companies have relatively little experience.

“JBIC can help by using long-term financing to maintain and improve the international competitiveness of Japanese companies,” it said.
