Eolus seeks nod for new Swedish onshore wind farm
May 10, 2024 13:48 CESTSwedish renewables developer OX2 AB (STO:OX2) is proposing to build an offshore wind farm in Swedish territorial waters, off the island of Gotland, along with another project that will create a complex with a total capacity of up to 2.8 GW.
The company said on Tuesday it will seek permission from Sweden’s Land and Environment Court to build and operate the Ran park. Municipal approval from Region Gotland will be required before the application is filed.
To be located around 12 km (7.5 miles) off Gotland's eastern coast, the Ran wind park will be built in proximity to Pleione offshore park in the Swedish economic zone. The two plants will form a larger wind turbine generation site that that will be capable of producing around 13 TWh of electricity annually.
OX2 noted that the Ran scheme is at an early development phase and is still not included in its project development portfolio. The company intends to launch a public consultation this month.
The Swedish firm is developing several offshore wind projects in its home country, including the up-to-1.5-GW Triton. The scheme, which is planned to deliver electricity before 2030, last week was granted a Natura 2000 permit.
