Free Art. Italian Futurism from the Gianni Mattioli Collection

Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts under the initiative and support of the State Russian Museum holds an exhibition "Free Art. Italian Futurism from the Gianni Mattioli Collection".
Visitors will see 26 works by Italian masters from one of the most important private collections of Italian art of the 20th century, the collection of Gianni Mattioli. The collection includes works by Umberto Boccioni, Giacomo Balla, Carlo Carr, Gino Severini, Luigi Russolo, Ardengo Soffici, Otto Rosai, Fortunato Depero, Mario Cironi, Amedeo Modigliani and Giorgio Morandi from 1910-1921.
Through his collection Mattioli sought to demonstrate the fundamental importance of Futurism in the further development of Italian painting and its important role on the international art scene in the early twentieth century. The futurists sought to bring Italy from the periphery of the art world, so in the early twentieth century they set out to conquer Paris, the capital of European art life and the art market. The Italian art of the early 20th century is practically unrepresented in the Russian collections, so the exhibition in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts offers the viewers a unique and unique opportunity to get acquainted with one of the brightest pages of the European avant-garde.
