A Pokémon RPG’s coming to Switch

Hooray!

Nintendo

There’s a mainline Pokémon role-playing game in development for Nintendo Switch right now. The Pokémon Company’s president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara revealed that the system will receive a main entry in the series during Nintendo’s E3 2017 Direct presentation.

When a Pokémon-centric Nintendo Direct aired last week and didn’t include mention of a main RPG for Switch, fans got frustrated. Rumors have swirled that one’s in the works since just before the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon for Nintendo 3DS last fall. The Pokémon Company also confirmed that it was focusing on Nintendo Switch development shortly after the hybrid console was revealed last October.

There’s no release date for the Pokémon RPG yet. There will be new Pokémon games out later this year, however: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. These tell an alternate version of Sun and Moon and will be available on Nintendo 3DS this November.

Pokkén Tournament DX will also launch this fall. The remaster of last year’s Wii fighting game will include new Pokémon and modes on Nintendo Switch.

Details are light on this big Pokémon RPG for now, but whenever it arrives, it will be the first one to make it to a home console in the franchise’s 21-year history.
