Doctor Who season 12 spoilers: Time Lord to take on new rival as Osgood returns?

DOCTOR WHO SEASON 12 won’t be on television screens for a very long time, but it seems when it does return, fans could see a familiar face take on the Time Lord.

Doctor Who: The Doctor finds out UNIT has been shut down

Whovians could see The Doctor meet a familiar face in the new series as there have been suggested Ingrid Oliver, also know as Osgood in Doctor Who could be making a comeback.

The scientist who works for the UNIT organisation was last seen on television screens during four episodes of the fan-favourite show between 2013 and 2015.

The actress has recently spoken out about returning to Doctor Who and whether or not her character will reunite with the Time Lord.

During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Ingrid said: “Osgood never got to go in the TARDIS, and I think that’s such a shame, and I’d love her to be with a female Doctor as well.”

Jodie Whittaker was the first actress to take on the role of the iconic Doctor in series 11 and Ingrid spoke about her character and the Doctor working together.

“I think Osgood and a woman Doctor would be brilliant. I still work for UNIT, as far as I’m concerned!”

But, for the fans who tuned into the New Year’s special episode which aired earlier this year, they know that UNIT no longer exists.

In the episode titled Resolution, the Doctor demanded to speak to Kate Stewart at UNIT, but she was redirected to a special armed forces helpline instead.

“UNIT operations have been suspended pending a review of funding,” she was told.

And if that wasn’t a big enough change, there seems to be another one heading the Whovian’s way.

After a Christmas Special of Doctor Who was snubbed by creators, it seems they might have listened to the outcry and decided to treat fans this year with one.

It comes after the Daily Star newspaper claimed the broadcaster was considering creating a mid-season instalment after being ‘disappointed’ only 5.5million fans tuned in for the January one-off.

But a spokesperson added to the publication: “This is just speculation. It is far too early to say what the schedules will be at that time of year.”

Nevertheless, what has been confirmed is the casting line-up for series 12.

Re-joining Jodie will be Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.

Meanwhile, it was previously reported how a former Doctor’s companion had given up with watching the show.

After playing Polly between the years 1966 ad 1967, Anneke Willis said she “let go” of the show.

“I have to be honest… I think Jodie is lovely… but I watched most of the first one and then I let go, because it’s not my Doctor Who,” she explained.

Speaking at a press screening for The Macra Terror, Anneke continued: “It’s new Doctor Who for the new world and I’m not part of it, really, anymore - except if they ask me to be in it.”

Meanwhile. Frazer Hines, who starred as companion Jamie McCrimmon, said he “loved” Jodie’s take on the Time Lord.

“I was worried that it was going to be a woman Doctor,” he explained. But then when I saw it, I loved the way she kept her accent. It didn’t become terribly PC.”

Doctor Who season 12 returns to BBC One sometime during 2020.
