How to set up Xbox One to automatically turn on TV and audio receiver

You can get your games or TV shows quicker if you configure Xbox One to turn on your TV and audio receiver automatically — Here's how to do it.

If you use your Xbox One on a regular basis, it makes no sense to have to find the remote controls to turn on your TV and audio receiver before you can start playing your favorite game or watching TV shows.

Thankfully, Xbox One is equipped to handle turning on your TV and audio receiver on your behalf automatically when you turn on the console. You only need to know where to find the settings.

In this guide, you’ll learn the easy steps to configure your Xbox One to automatically turn on your TV and audio receiver to quickly get to your games or entertainment.

How to set up Xbox One turn on TV and audio receiver

  1. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Select All Settings.

  4. Select TV & OneGuide.

  5. Select Device Control.

  6. Under Devices, select TV to let the console detect your TV to control the power options.

  7. Select TV setup.

  8. If Xbox One successfully detected your TV, select Next. If not select Enter it to enter the TV code manually.

  9. Go back to Device Control.

  10. Select Audio receiver.

  11. Select Audio receiver setup to let the console detect your audio receiver to control power and volume.

  12. Select your audio receiver brand from the drop-down list.

  13. Select Next.

  14. Select Guide me to go through the detection process.

  15. Select Send command to let the console find the correct code to detect your audio receiver. If you know the code, select Enter it.

  16. Check if the command muted your audio receiver. If it did, then select Yes.

  17. Go back to Device Control.

  18. Under Power, select Device power options.

  19. For TV, select On when Xbox turns on, and Off when Xbox turn off.

  20. For Audio receiver, select Toggle for both options.

  21. Close the Xbox settings to complete the task.

Once you completed the steps, power off the console to see if your devices turn off as well. If they do, you’re all set up to automatically power on your TV and audio receiver when Xbox turns on using the controller or the “Hey Cortana: Turn on” voice command.

Keep in mind that you can do the same steps mentioned above to set up your cable or satellite box.
