Huawei P60 Pro review

Design, build quality, handling

The P60 Pro has an exquisite design, something we've come to expect from Huawei smartphones. While the build hasn't changed much for years, it's still a dual-glass phone with a metal frame; the maker does know how to spice things up with the overall looks.

The Huawei P60 Pro has glass panels and an aluminum frame. It is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, which is surely nice. Furthermore, the front panel is made of Kunlun glass - a material designed to be much more drop resistant than regular glass.

The P60 Pro has two glass sheets with symmetrical curves around the long sides - a typical Huawei look, one might say. Huawei has been making curved smartphones for years, so this is hardly a surprise. The back panel finish depends on the color option.

We have the Rococo Pearl, a fancy word for a pearl marble look. There is no texture to it on touch, the back is silky-smooth, incredibly slippery, but also 100% fingerprint-resistant.

The Violet and Black models have a matte finish on the back, which is still not prone to smudges, and remains quite slippery. The Green version has an all-glossy, smudge-friendly back, and it is the P60 Pro with the best grip as the glossy panels stick to your hands.

The frame is slightly curved, too. It is thin around the long sides and wider at the top and bottom.

Huawei advertises the P60 Pro for its classic camera design. It is unique, sure, with one large circle and two small spots, no two questions about that, and surely better than the two large circles on the P50 Pro. Classic, on the other hand, is arguable.

The camera island is made of glass and surrounded by a small metal frame, making it somewhat sharp. It is jutting out of the back big time, and the phone wobbles a whole lot when used on a desk.

And now, let's do a quick tour around the Huawei P60 Pro.

The 6.67-inch LTPO OLED occupies the front, with evenly thin bezels across all sides. The tiny punch hole is not that of an eyesore, and it contains a rather capable 13MP selfie camera.

There is a barely noticeable outlet above the screen for earpiece purposes. Like most phones, the P60 Pro has a hybrid stereo speaker setup, where the top one features two outlets (front-facing and top-facing).

The Huawei P60 Pro doesn't have a Face ID system like the Mate 50 Pro, and we are glad. When you have a plenty-fast optical fingerprint scanner under the screen, there is no point in a second biometric solution, one that eats up a lot of screen pixels.

Indeed, the under-display fingerprint scanner is among the fastest and most accurate on the market, and we have no complaints.

The back of the Huawei P60 Pro contains the triple camera on a not-so-large yet thick glass piece. The primary camera sits inside the large metal ring in the center. The telephoto lens is visible on the left, while the ultrawide camera is on the right. A single LED flash is also around, with a color spectrum sensor right next to it.

The top of the P60 Pro houses a speaker grille, the IR blaster, and one of the mics.

The bottom has the primary microphone, the second speaker, the USB-C port, and the SIM card tray. The P60 Pro can take up to two nano-SIM cards, or you can swap the second one for a Nano Memory card.

There is nothing on the left side. The volume and power/lock keys are on the right.

The Huawei P60 Pro measures 161 x 74.5 x 8.3 mm and weighs 200 grams - in line with smartphones of this caliber. The P60 Pro actually looks and feels thinner because of its curved profile.

The Huawei P60 Pro is a beautiful smartphone, unique at that, and we are sure many people would find it excellent for its great build, sleek look, and clean design. The white version will not be everyone's cup of tea, but it has this unique charm, and we like it. Well, some of us, others find it reminiscent of their bathroom.

The P60 Pro feels great in hand, and our only concern is its grip. The white model is incredibly slippery with no grip whatsoever. You can use the provided case and fix that, of course, but you will make the device thicker. Another solution is getting the Green model for its all-glossy build, which provides an okay-ish grip.

And that's about it. The Huawei P60 Pro is an awesome flagship as far as design, looks and build quality are concerned, but its luxurious wrapping offers almost no grip.
