Ikea has a sense of humor, and the proof is in their new campaign for the ‘Frakta’ bag. This week the Swedish giant poked fun at being featured on Demna Gvasalia’s moodboard, who showed an Ikea-inspired blue bag during his first menswear show last year. Johan Holmgren, the creative director of Acne agency who created the advert and the publicity stunt, told the press that he appreciated Balenciaga’s “flirting”, and naturally wanted to “flirt back”. As soon as Balenciaga’s calf leather bag came on the market, Ikea responded with an advert saying *‘*How to identify an original Ikea Frakta bag’ followed by four steps. They even posted on their social media that the “original cost €1694 less”. It’s another tour de force for Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga, whose designs sit firmly in the zeitgeist, speaking to the obsessive virality that is so at the heart of contemporary fashion.
