There is good news on the cloud situation for today’s total solar eclipse. The general trend is for less cloudiness. It still matters where you are located. Let’s look at where the clouds will be sparse.
We have a fairly large amount of low clouds early this morning. The good news on low clouds in April is they tend to lift and dissipate after sunrise. This is also what the weather computer models indicate. On the other hand, models also indicate thin, high-level clouds will develop along some of the eclipse path later this morning. Those high clouds should still allow you to see the eclipse.
Here is the total cloud cover forecast at 3 p.m. Eastern today, right around the time of the solar eclipse. On the map below white depicts clouds and blue/black depicts clear skies. Numbers represent the percent of the sky covered with clouds.
