He has a pivotal role in the film playing Harge, the husband to Cate Blanchett’s Carol. As her spouse, he is upset to find out that she’s been cheating him, and with a woman at that. Turns out, casting his part proved a challenge for director Todd Haynes, who is known for his work on Mildred Pierce and Far from Heaven. “Casting a man to play opposite Cate Blanchett is not an obvious task,” Haynes said during a press conference for the film in New York City. “A lot of male actors today are kind of grown-up boys.
