Introduction: Call of Duty LED Ray Gun

Who doesn't love Call Of Duty? Anyone who's played Call of Duty has, at one point or another, thought "wow, I wish I had the guns they have in game". Well, with this Instructable, now you can make your own very own ray gun- albeit far less deadly than it is in the game! This is an easy, affordable way for anyone to make a ray gun of their own, in a few easy steps.

Supplies

1x Arduino Mega 2650
16x LEDs
1x RGB LED
1x Pushbutton
1x Speaker (electrical component)
1x Small breadboard
1x 9V battery

Jumper wire kit
Cardboard
Hot glue gun
Hot glue sticks
Box cutter

Step 1: Putting Together the Electronics - the Basics

The first step to making this ray gun is to complete the electronics aspect of the gun, to ensure that the final gun is capable of making sounds and turning on lights. We've attached a wiring guide to help you figure out how to connect all the components. Begin by following the wiring guide as well as the provided finalized image to add everything into the breadboard, connect it to the Arduino Mega and then provide the microcontroller some power using the 9V battery.

The guide for uploading the code can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NLxH-rKY2_l9rC...

The guide for wiring the lights and sound can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p3PeaROmIOTYS...

Some steps of this instructable require connecting wires by either soldering or crimping. If you need any additional instruction on how to do these, some tutorials for both are linked below:

Step 2: Cutting Out Your Cardboard

So, you've got your electronics set up. I know what you're thinking. "But purduedudes, where on earth do I put this stuff?" Well, don't worry, that's what this step is for. The attached document is all you need- print it out, ideally single sided, it makes it easier to work with. Once the document is fully printed out, stick each page onto the carboard, and cut around it. It's just cardboard, so it should be easy to cut using scissors or an X-acto knife. Just whatever you have on hand! We've included all the parts of the gun for full visibility, but you really don't need to cut out the smaller pieces, just the main pieces. The smaller pieces are more so for a reference in case you'd like to add some details as well.

Step 3: Sticking Together the Layers

We've also embedded a video showing you how to assemble the layers. You basically want to assemble it in two halves: Start by using hot glue to stick together the layers for one half of the gun. Separately, use hot glue to stick together the other half's layers. The purpose of this is to be able to make changes internally based on the size of your breadboard and wiring. You can now use a box cutter to cut a large enough space on the inside of both halves to fit in all your electrical work. Add that in, and then glue the two halves together.

Pro tip: The larger pieces have hexagon shaped holes in them. This is so that during assembly, you can stick a pencil in these holes to ensure correct alignment of the layers.

Step 4: Admire Your Final Product

And that's it! That's all you need to make a great Call Of Duty ray gun! We've added in an image of our final product, we think it looks great, and we hope yours turns out awesome as well! Good luck, and happy crafting!
