City officials, veterans and others will be there to greet Negry - one of the few remaining survivors of the sinking ship on Dec. 24, 1944 - as he arrives from St. Augustine escorted by an honor guard of veterans.

The SS Leopoldville was torpedoed by a German submarine, just five miles from Cherborg, France, as it made its way from England to France with more than 2,000 American troops.

The public is invited to meet and hear Negry's story. The program will begin at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park at the east end of Broad Street and the Indian River.
