Miss Dior Cherie by Christian Dior Women's Fragrances

In 2005, John Galliano, who was then the lead designer for haute couture fashion label Dior, launched a fragrance to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Christian Dior’s birth. That fragrance was Miss Dior Cherie. Miss Dior Cherie owed its name to the Stevie Wonder tune “My Cherie Amour” and to a Dior dress line called “Cherie” that was popular throughout the 1940s.

What does Miss Dior Cherie smell like?

Miss Dior Cherie by Christian Dior women’s fragrances has a base of musk, sandalwood, and patchouli on top of which fruity, strawberry scents, and whiffs of caramelized apples are layered. Miss Dior comes as an eau de parfum spray in 1.7 ounce, 3.4 ounce, and 5 ounce sizes. It also comes as a shower gel and as a body lotion. Many of the bottles come with a silver bow at the top.

Has Miss Dior Cherie ever changed the way it smells?

In 2013, Miss Dior Cherie was reimagined, and the “Cherie” was dropped from its official product name. The sandalwood and patchouli base essences are stronger in other versions of Miss Dior, and the fruity notes are less intense.

What do you call different concentrations of Miss Dior?

Scents like Miss Dior come in a variety of concentrations:

  • Eau de Cologne: Eau de Cologne, which is commonly called “cologne,” contains a concentration of aromatic essences between 5% and 10%. The remaining volume is water and alcohol in various proportions, depending upon the manufacturer. Fixative chemicals such as coal tar, mosses, and resins may also be added as ingredients to a cologne.
  • Eau de Toilette: Eau de toilette is also called “toilet water.” It’s usually a 10% solution of perfume. Because toilet water evaporates quickly, its top notes tend to dominate.
  • Eau de Parfum: The concentration of perfume oils in parfum waters ranges between 15% and 25%. This product is sometimes referred to as an "EDP." These products are more concentrated than cologne and toilet water, so more of the underlying base fragrances emerge from the overall fragrance. Miss Dior comes as an eau de parfum, too.
  • Perfume: Perfumes are the most concentrated type of fragrance. Essential oils make up between 25% and 40% of their volume. This means that perfumes last much longer than cologne, toilet water, and EDPs, and because of that, the entire range of scent notes associated with their constituent oils are released.
