Every Friends fan knows the importance of Central Perk. Hell, even non-Friends fans know about the coffee shop where Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Monica, Chandler and Joey spent so much time on the big orange couch. But what everyone probably doesn't know is just how much Gunther's business would stand to make if it were actually a running coffee shop. The folks at bizdaq crunched the numbers to find out exactly that.

In order to pull this off, they watched hours and hours of Friends episodes (so your typical Saturday night), scanning for scenes in Central Perk and studying the average number of customers per day.  They "guestimate" that in one hour, 12 customers would sit down in the shop, and 30 others would pop in to grab a cup to-go. They also guessed that, if customers purchased coffee and the occasional baked good, that the average order rang in at $7.  Now here comes the math...

Assuming the shop is open for ten hours each day, with 42 customers being served per hour, bizdaq guesses that Central Perk would pull in $2,940 a day, and $1, 073,100 in a year. While that number is pretty impressive, it doesn't take into account the money Gunther and co. would have to spend on supplies, rent and other costs.

It's worth noting, also, that the prime location in Manhattan would—in theory—bring in a lot more foot traffic than was seen on the show, and thus this number could actually be a lot higher. Then again, the store would face major competition with coffee giants like Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts around, so you might not want to go opening your own version of CP just yet.
