Svendt Grundtvig (1824-1883) was a Danish literary historian and collector of folk songs and tales. He was popular for encouraging the documentation of Danish folk songs in writing so they could be preserved. Although he primarily compiled books of strictly songs in his early career, by 1854 he expanded his recordings to both songs and folk tales. These collections were eventually published into a three-volume set of Danish folk tales in 1876.
