Joan Gamper Sports City in Sant Joan Despí
Sports facilities for FC Barcelona.
Development of suburban land between Sant Joan Despí and Sant Feliu de Llobregat, which the city’s general plan has designated for sports facilities, where a piece of about 13.5 ha is reserved for the sports facilities of the Futbol Club Barcelona.
The project had the challenge of concentrating in a single area the facilities of FC Barcelona related to the training of the first and second football teams, those related to grassroots football or football school, as well as those of basketball, handball and hockey, and the buildings that provide them services.
This sports area coexists with an area of new centrality, where tertiary uses linked to the main sports use are introduced.
The combination of both functions gives rise to a development that connects the urban areas of Sant Joan Despí and Sant Feliu de Llobregat, recognizing the agricultural roads and the Canal de la Infanta layout as the main axes of development, and improving the permeability between the two sides of the neighboring B-23 motorway.
Batlleiroig was also responsible for the urbanization projects in the area, the Sports City and the Johan Cruyff Stadium that was later implemented in this environment.
