My pullets have slightly raised scales on their legs. Should a chicken's legs be completely smooth or can they be somewhat rough and still normal? I'm wondering if I should just dip their legs in castor oil, just to be safe. Any ideas? I was able to get a photo of my RIR's leg. Her legs are the scaliest.

Thank you!

Also, would anyone know why her toes are bent like that? They don't seem to be causing her any problems. She walks fine and can jump up on the roost fine (We have a 2x4 on the 4" side for them).

Thanks!

This is such an old thread, but I'm hoping you are still around and can remember- was that normal or mites? My 14 seek olds all have legs like this and I can't figure out if it's mites or normal.
