Blue-Green Painted Room Inspiration
Entering a space awash in blue-green hues like turquoise, teal, and aquamarine is often instantly soothing, which is no surprise considering these colors reflect those of the ocean, where we often dream of going to escape busy schedules and looming deadlines. Miles Redd painted the hallway of a Bahamas home in a subdued shade befitting the laid-back island atmosphere, while the Manhattan library of Frédéric Malle is done in a dramatic turquoise that matches the intensity of the room’s David Reed painting.
To give your serene space extra style and pizzaz, consider a using a high-gloss paint or a decorative finish. Architect Joel Barkley and designer Todd Klein used a super-slick blue-green on the walls, trim, and ceiling in the dramatic powder room of a historic Louisville, Kentucky, estate and Vicente Wolf had an automotive painter coat the bookcases of a Manhattan library in a metallic teal. At fashion designer Stefano Pilati’s Paris duplex, a collection of African masks is displayed in the living area, where the walls are covered in a vibrant teal.
