Karsan Unveils its Futuristic Taxi

Karsan a Turkish company, reveal their advanced model of a taxi in SOHO, at the Classic Car Club. Karsan is one of the 3 car manufacturers finalist that competes in the Taxi of Tomorrow Competition in New York City; Nissan and Ford are part of this competition. They require developing a taxi/cab that specifically designed to New York City. The winner of this competition will create and service the city’s taxi fleet for decade.

It has a glass roof, allowing the passengers/travelers to see the view of the city and can load up to 4 passengers. This car is equipped of wheelchair accessible ramps which extends to both rear passengers side doors; enough space for a wheelchair-bound passenger. There is no front passenger seat; instead they made it as extra luggage space storage. The engine is unique and very accessible that is found in the rear part of the car. The engine box are compatible to any kind of engines such hybrid, electric and gas. One of the lead designers couldn’t give the exact gas mileage of the car but they expected the car to run at about 20-30 miles per gallon. In every detail of a car inspired by New York City; the straight line is inspired to Manhattan’s grid and the curved roof is inspired by round city icons like Columbus Circle and the Guggenheim Museum. The passenger may enjoy its features while they are in a ride; WiFi, plugs for charging cell phones and its glass roof for staring the beautiful view of the city. The concept of the car is focused on the accessibility.
