Enjoy Cotignac and the nearby areas

At arrival

While Cotignac has two Spar supermarkets (one in the center and one just a few minutes south of the village) we recommend to visit the big Intermache in Barjols or Aupsfor more variated supplies.

We also recommend visiting the nearby organic wine yard Carpe Diem and buying a couple of their bag-in-a-box rosé wines.

In the morning we buy our baguettes at Lou Gourmandises 2-3 minutes’ walk from the house. They are closed at Wednesdays – however the bakery Le Fournil de Pascal et Stéphanie is just as good and is only a 5-10 minutes’ walk away.

In Cotignac

We enjoy walking the small streets of Cotignac visiting the local shops and having lunch at one of the restaurants around the plaza.

Many evenings there will be music or festivals at the plaza or at the old amphitheater.

We have tried to list a few of our favorite restaurants and bars here.

Le Tailleur de Bière/ La Tuf – is a newly opened brewery and bar –their terrace is a must visit. It’s a part of a new and very tasteful development project near the river.

Rocher et grottes troglodytes de Cotignac

Cotignac is located at the foot of Rocher et grottes troglodytes de Cotignac an 80-meter-high rock face with caves originally formed by a major waterfall. From the rock you will have an excellent view of Cotignac.

Cascade de la Cassole

If you, from where the river La Cassole crosses the main road (just next to the tourism office), follow the path in the western direction for circa 15 minutes you will arrive at a beautiful small waterfall – the Cascade de la Cassole.

Nearby

Cotignac is surrounded by beautiful nature and idyllic small villages.

Correns, Domaine de Aspras and Châteauvert

10 kilometers south-west of Cotignac is the small ‘organic village’ of Correns. In Correns you can have a very nice lunch at the outside patio at the Auberge de Correns.

Correns is also home to the excellent organic winery Domaine de Aspras.

If you drive through Correns and continue towards the very small village Châteauvert you will follow the river Argens where you will find waterfalls and river banks perfect for swimming.

Bessillon, Pontevès and Fox-Amphoux

West of Cotignac you will find the highest point in the area Le Bessilion. From Le Bessilion you can get a great view of the region – and on clear days you should be able to see the Mediterranean See. During World War II the local Résistance, while hiding at the mountain, fell into a German ambush killing many local men.

Next to the Bessilion is the ancient and small village and castle Pontevès which is worth a small detour. Also, worth a small detour is the small village of Fox-Amphoux which located on the top of a hill provides a beautiful view of the area.

Sillans-la-Cascade, Salernes and Entrecasteaux

Just a few minutes North of Cotignac you will find Sillans-la-Cascade – a small village and a spectacular waterfall and the river La Bresque with small pools.

If you drive 5 kilometers east from Sillans-la-Cascade you will get to the village of Salernes. The river La Bresque runs through the village, where you also find a 100% organic supermarket.

There is also an ancient road between Cotignac and Salernes. The distance is 10 kilometers – so perfect for a bicycling tour or maybe a run.

East of Cotignac is Entrecasteaux - yet another small village – with a historic castle in the middle.

Aups, Tourtour and Ampus

Do also visit Aups for shopping and Tourtour and Ampus for the view and the drive.

Places worth a drive

Grand Canyon du Verdon – 1-2 hours drive depending on which part of the canyon you’ll visit. At Pont du Galetas - Gorges du Verdon they rent out electric boats and pedalos.

The Mediterranean Sea and the Riviera including Saint Tropez is about 1 hour drive away.
