Christmas Mouse

Hello crafters. I am here for a sanity check! Christmas is right around the corner and we are all looking for quick last minute gifts! (Just me?) Good thing this sweet little Christmas mouse works up in just a couple of hours!

You can find the pattern for Tulip the Mouse here!

Materials

  • 2.75mm crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Yarn
  • Polyfill
  • Craft wire
  • White/Black embroidery thread
  • Jingle bell

Yarn Used

In order to get the right proportions, the pattern for the hat and candy cane used are the same as the mouse. So, if you have used plush yarn for the mouse, make sure you have the same yarn weight for the hat and candy cane! In the sample photos below I am using:

Scheepjes Stonewashed
Moonstone
Boulder Opal
Rose Quartz
Red Jasper
Malachite

Drops Alpaca Boucle (Held double with Moonstone to create the fuzzy brim around the hat. You can use any fuzzy yarn you would like, or just use the Moonstone yarn by itself.)

Notes

**Please read through entire pattern before beginning**

Pattern is in US terminology. Work in continuous rounds. Take care to always move up the stitch marker to the last stitch, at the end of each round. Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of each row. Make sure to have the correct number of stitches before moving on to the next round. If using safety eyes, squeaky toys, rattle inserts or any other small parts, please include safety warnings for children under 3.

Change to Fuzzy Yarn

Rnd 31-32: sc in each st (42)

Sl st in the next st to FO. Snip yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew a jingle bell to the tip of the hat.

Candy Cane

Starting with Moonstone

Rnd 1: 6sc in a MR (6)

Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12)

Rnd 3: sc in each st (12)

Change to Red Jasper

During the color changes, do not snip the yarn between rounds, simply pick it up again when ready to change colors, this will be hidden on the inside of the work. Tie beginning ends together to secure yarn. Change colors between Red Jasper and Moonstone, after every 2 rnds. The last 3 rnds will be worked in Moonstone.

Rnd 4-35: sc in each st (12)

Bend the ends of your craft wire. You can add a piece of tape on each end of the wire to prevent it from poking through the stitches. Insert craft wire.  Stuff firm around craft wire.

Rnd 36: dec x 6 (6)

Sl st into the next st to FO and cut yarn. Hide the ends inside of the candy cane. Bend the candy cane into the proper shape.

*If you are using pipe cleaners, use 2 and twist them around each other before you insert them.

Assembly

Sew the candy cane between Tulip’s arms and belly.

Sew the hat to Tulip’s head and ears.
