Monsanto Sued Over PCB Contamination in California (Correct)

Monsanto Co. faces a lawsuit by Contra Costa County and 17 cities in the San Francisco Bay Area claiming the chemical company created a public nuisance by knowingly selling and marketing chemicals dangerous to human, animal, and environmental health.

The lawsuit, filed Dec. 21, alleges Monsanto-made polychlorinated biphenals, or PCBs, that contaminated the county, cities, San Francisco Bay, and the western Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Monsanto made about 1.4 billion pounds of PCBs, used to cool heavy-duty engines among other uses, the lawsuit said.
