Vinyl record clocks

Does anyone know if there is a YouTube video on how to create something like these vinyl record clocks?

It is not recommended to cut vinyl with laser. Cutting PVC (Poly VinylChloride) /vinyl/pleather/artificial leather, produce chlorine gas which is highly toxic! Also it makes corrosion to your laser system.

I don’t think anyone will help you after such a response. :man_shrugging:t2:

Please share your results.

Since the OP didn’t ask, please ignore below. For anyone thinking of doing this there are plenty of pics of Co2 lasers being trashed after cutting vinyl records.

Thanks for showing the cutting videos. Do you know of any that show how to design them in LightBurn?

@Milkman you didnt mention designing, you wrote CREATING. I was just trying to help you to save your health and machine. All the best.

Rob, there are often questions asked on this forum coming from the perspective of aesthetics. Often those questions do not suppose any consideration for doability or healty/safety concerns. When those considerations should be addressed it’s not unreasonable for them to be brought up as a response.

Examples:
“How do I cut this half inch steel plate with my CO2 laser?”
“How do I cut white acrylic with my diode laser?”
“How do I cut this PVC panel?”

Going by your reasoning explaining that those things cannot be done or should not be done is not a valid response. This approach is not helpful to the community.

Again, going by your reasoning, then, the alternative would have been to ignore your question. Would that response have been preferable to you? I don’t think anyone on this forum would knowingly encourage a known dangerous operation.

Let’s all try to make this forum a better place.

Ignore it then. There have been 5 replies to my post and every single one has been off topic. If you can’t help me with creating, designing, these in lightburn then please refrain from replying.

Here’s two:

Thanks again for the videos on cutting them but I’m looking for videos on how to design them in LightBurn.

Adding to what others have said, cutting vinyl records can be very dangerous and damaging to your equipment and health.

That said, a clock face can be designed quickly, using the ‘Circle Array’ and ‘Variable Text’ tools in LightBurn.

Ok thanks. How do I add the tabs like on the praying hands and church to keep them together? I seen a tabs button but I couldn’t figure out how to get it to work. Also how to overlap different objects?

While this isn’t related to vinyl records [no, really, just don’t, you will regret it], it is a good walkthrough on making clocks. Create a Skull Clock with Lightburn in under FIVE Minutes - YouTube

Edit the vectors where you want to add the tabs. Possibly create little boxes and do boolean operations.

I don’t know how to do any of that.

We provide documentation and video examples of how to do most things LightBurn. We produce these things to help users learn. Have a look here: Home - LightBurn Software Documentation

A person that I have learned greatly from on the clock topic is “The Louisiana Hobby Guy”. Look him up on the Tube

Thank you to both of you. That is what I was looking for. Now I have a bunch of learning to do.

Also hydrogen chloride which combines with any moisture to make hydrochloric acid. Definitely dangerous to inhale and dangerous to all electronic equipment (corrosive).
