Excitement

Excitement stems from having to much energy, also when the owner gives affection at the wrong moment.

It is important to walk you dog everyday, doing this can help solve most of the “bad dog” behaviors.

Walking helps the animals release their energy in a structured way (when done properly). Sometimes walking is the cause of excitement for some dogs, which is why it is important for owners to learn how to create a calm atmosphere for the walk.

Your dog should not be in an excited state at anytime – from when you grab the leash to the time you arrive back home. When leaving the house the handler should exit first and the dog(s) follow. The dog(s) should not rush the door the moment it is open, it is up to the owner to teach them to wait calmly until they command the dogs to move forward. During the walk it is important which position the handler is in, they should be the ones in the front – or they are the follower and lose the respect of their dog(s). They should also maintain their dog(s) attention, the dog should not be searching for other objects, dogs, or people.

To master the walk please consult with a professional.

The excitement in a dog can also be created by the owner giving affection at the wrong moment. When first entering your home, or if someone else is entering your home, it is important not to give the dog(s) attention until they calm down. This involves not giving the dog eye contact, touching them, or talking to them. When the dog is calm and settled is the perfect time to give them affection. This is difficult for dog owners to do because their favorite thing when they get home is to have that fury friend be ecstatic to see them. however, if you care about your dog please wait until they have settled and are capable of handling that affection at that time.
