Engrish IV

"Carifornia" - Engrish at its best

From my archives another edition of “Engrish”, our favorite language. People’s T-Shirts are often a source of hilarity, but hard to document. On the beach, I managed however to discreetly snap a shot of the back of this beautiful example. Like so many “Itarian” restaurants, also this shirt is a victim of reverse translation from Katakana.

Engrish never gets boring, and there’s an endless supply. So here’s another edition of it.
Engrish is so popular in Japan that it’s the prime advertising tool. Mere Japanese doesn’t attract anyone anymore. Enjoy these messages from local business owners.

Engrish II


Already last year, I have posted some examples of Engrish. Engrish is the Japanese rendition of English, and it’s often funny to see. The best examples are usually found on T-shirts and shopping bags, but I’m afraid it would be considered rude to snap pictures of those (at least as long as people are wearing/holding them) ;-). Engrish

Engrish
Engrish, that is the Japanese take on English, is often a source of amusement.
It can be found everywhere, in ads, shop names, information for visitors, even T-shirts! Some are funny because of simple spelling mistakes, others for their grammatical constructions, whereas others seem to have come straight from google translate on a bad day. But I think it’s better to let the examples speak for themselves! (more…)
