The traditional and contemporary work of more than 250 Japanese artists will be on display at two University of Hawaiʻi community college galleries on Oʻahu July 19 through Aug. 17.

The exhibition, Japanese Art Tapestry Festa in Hawaiʻi, features paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, craft and print artwork presented on tapestries. The collection of about 400 works will be divided between Gallery ʻIolani at Windward Community College and Lama Library at Kapiʻolani Community College.

The remarkable collection was assembled by the Heart Art Communication, a Japanese nonprofit organization, to serve as a bridge building respect and understanding across cultures. Participating artists were selected through art associations and organizations throughout the country. The exhibition has traveled to cities in North America, Europe and Asia.

Opening reception at Gallery ʻIolani is scheduled 4–7 p.m. Monday, July 18; the gallery is open 1–5 p.m.
weekdays.

Opening reception at Lama Library is 4–6 p.m. Tuesday, July 19; the gallery is open 8 a.m.–4 p.m. weekdays.

Opening receptions and the exhibitions are free and open to the public.
