The Ciutat Esportiva del Futbol Club Barcelona Joan Gamper was built by the architects Enric Batlle and Joan Roig in the town of Sant Joan Despí, in the county of Baix Llobregat. Inaugurated in 2006, it has a total surface area of 136,839 m2 and is named after the football club’s founder.
Located less than five km from the Camp Nou stadium, the complex includes various sports facilities. It has nine football fields, five of which are real grass and four of which have stands for the general public. It also has a goalkeeper training field and four artificial grass pitches. Two of these pitches have stands and one can be converted into a rugby pitch.
It also has a sports hall with three training courts for basketball. The courts can also be used for playing indoor football or handball. The complex includes a building with meeting rooms, press room, dressing rooms and offices, as well as another building providing services and changing rooms, along with an medical centre. It also has various areas for training and technical excellence.
The opening of this complete set of facilities has attracted a large part of the sporting activities of the professional squads of the first team and grassroots teams, which previously took place at Camp Nou, in the fields adjacent to the Miniestadio (mini stadium), and in Palau Blaugrana 2, popularly known as el Picadero (the arena).
